What is the most valuable thing you took away from completing the chapter 8 discussion worksheet with your partner? What did you learn about the characters that you didn't know before?
This should be a full paragraph that references the discussion you had with your partner(s).

I learned that if you really focus on what you read, it can show you ideas about different characters that you wouldn't find otherwise. Just reading the passage told me what happened, but after the discussion, I found that Jem is changing about Boo Radley and Boo Radley might not be bad after all. I would have never gotten those ideas from the text. I think this might be true for any part of the book too, so really going through what you read will give you new ideas about characters that you wouldn't get otherwise.
ReplyDeleteFrom completing the chapter 8 I learned that characters should not just be seen from one perspective throughout the whole reading, but many different. Because as my partner and I close read the section of chapter 8, by reading it with a fresh mind, not trapped in the umbrella of previous knowledge about the included characters I was able to more clearly see some new characteristics about them in which how the react under certain situations vs others.I learned that Boo Radley is not the monster that the children make him out to be, but a thoughtful and caring man who looks out for the greater good of those who live in Maycomb.
ReplyDeleteAfter finishing chapter 8 and the discussion, I learned that characters can be seen from more than one perspective not just one. Scout is given a blanket by Boo Radley to stay warm in the cold without her even realizing it which proved to her and Jem that he's not a monster. There's more than one side to a story and with that knowledge, I was able to realize along with Jem and Scout that Boo Radley wasn't the terrible and crazy guy the town made him out to be. He's a very caring person who looks out for people not someone who wrecks havoc in Maycomb.
ReplyDeleteAfter the chapter 8 discussion I learned many things about the characters in the book. It says Boo Radley comes out to a blanket around Scout during the fire. Before this point in the book, I did not think of Boo as someone who would go out of their way to be nice to a child of Maycomb. Going into the exercise I didn't think of Boo in that way and it truly changed my idea of him. It also showed how close of a town Maycomb really is. It showed that when one person has a problem there is always a door open for them.
ReplyDeleteAfter completing the chapter 8 discussion worksheet with my partner, I learned that there are many different aspects of the characters' personalities that are not shown in the text. Through their actions and emotions, we can see what the character is really like from a different perspective. I learned that Boo Radley isn't the monster he is seen to be by the entire community. In reality, he is actually this kind, caring person who just needs some attention sometimes. Though he may not seem to be their all the time, he is always there to watch out for everyone in Maycomb. When something goes wrong in the town, they all work together to work for a solution to the problem.
ReplyDeleteProbably the most valuable thing I have learned is that everyone in Maycomb is in a close-nit community, meaning everyone relies on each other because of its size and they care for each other in times of crisis like the fire at Miss.Maudies house how everyone helped. Also when Scout was very cold while she was watching the fire Boo Radley put the blanket around Scout. This revealed a lot about Boo which I never knew about and gave rise to another personality of Boo and many never expected either. He is caring and compassionate about others.
ReplyDeleteSomething valuable I learned from my discussion on chapter 8 was that alot of the situations and characters can be seen from more than one perspective. While I would see something one way another person would see something completely differently. For example I didn't really make anything of Mrs.Radleys death while my partner thought it could be a sign or a coincidence of some sort because they are always talking about the radley family. Overall I learned a lot from doing this discussion and seeing things in another persons point of view.
ReplyDeleteI learned just how close the people of maycomb really are during the fire scene. When one person had a problem, everyone came to help out. Even Boo Radley came to help when he saw Scout was cold. This shows that no matter how much the people of Maycomb differ, they will always be there for each other; like a family.

ReplyDeleteDuring our partner discussion, I learned that people can have many different views about something. Not everybody thinks the same nor views the same thing on a topic. If I think one specific way, another person might think a different way. However, we can all compromise and always come up with conclusions that we all agree on.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned from the class discussion was that Atticus is ethical and non traditional. In general, Atticus is a man of morals. Even though the book doesn't really mention religion in their lives, Atticus shows through his actions and words, that he differentiates between what is right and what is wrong. Another thing that stuck out to me was what would happen if Aunt Alexandria had instead raised Scout and not Atticus. Scout would be immensely different. She would've changed from being a free, open minded, adventurous, blunt tomboy, to a close minded, dull, typical, "lady". Her childhood would've been less adventurous. Dill would've been out of the picture because he symbolizes her childhood, adventures, and tom-boy-esque.
